A dog's intelligence level is worth weighing when you choose a breed, though not for the reason most people assume. Higher intelligence doesn't mean easier ownership. Barbets are smart enough to learn commands quickly — and smart enough to learn which rules you're inconsistent about enforcing. Intelligent breeds require equally engaged owners.
