Are Borzois good guard dogs?
Borzois are friendly by nature and far more likely to welcome a stranger than warn one off. Excellent company, but not a deterrent.

Temperament and instinct
With a gentle, independent, athletic temperament, borzois are wired for company, not confrontation. They may bark at the door, but the tail is usually wagging while they do it.
Size and deterrence
Borzois have physical presence on their side. At 27 to 48kg, the mere sight of the dog, and the sound of a deep bark, is enough to make an opportunist look elsewhere. Deterrence is most of what home security from a dog actually amounts to.
Training and responsibility
Borzois are strong-willed, so any protective instinct must be paired with firm, experienced training to stay controllable. A protective dog you cannot call off is a danger to visitors, delivery drivers, and you. Socialisation from puppyhood is what separates a stable, discerning dog from a reactive one, and formal protection training should only ever be done through a qualified professional.
What Borzois temperament means for guarding
Gentle temperament means warning rather than follow-through. Deterrent value is present, but the physical commitment behind it is limited. Independent dogs make their own threat assessments rather than looking to their owner for direction. Reliable for property guarding; needs more management in social situations. Sensitivity can undermine guard work in a residential setting. A dog that reacts to minor stimuli produces constant false alarms and eventually gets ignored.
Should you get this breed specifically to guard?
Choose a dog for the life you can give it, not for a job it may spend years never doing. For everyday home security, a naturally alert family dog plus good locks and lighting does more than most people expect. A miserable, under-stimulated dog guards nothing well.
