Are Harriers good running dogs?
Harriers are one of the better breeds to run with. The stamina is there, provided you build them up sensibly and let them mature first.

Stamina and build
Harriers pair high energy with an athletic frame, which is exactly the combination distance running asks for. A fit adult can hold a steady pace over several miles and will often be raring to go before you are.
Building up safely
Wait until the dog is fully grown before any real running, then increase distance gradually, no more than around ten percent a week. Soft surfaces such as grass and trails are kinder on joints than pavement, and a proper warm-up walk at each end reduces strain. Carry water on anything but the shortest, coolest outings.
Heat is the biggest danger. Dogs cannot shed heat the way we do, so a run that feels fine to you can be dangerous for them. Run in the cool of the morning or evening in summer, and drop the pace or skip it entirely when it is warm.
If running is not their thing
Even for a capable runner, variety matters. Mix running with walks, play, and mental work so the dog stays sound in body and settled in mind rather than being drilled on distance alone.
What Harriers temperament means for running
Active dogs are running dogs by nature, not just by training. Their need for real physical output makes them intrinsically motivated partners who set the pace rather than dragging behind it. Determined dogs push through the distance threshold where less persistent breeds slow down. Useful for building up mileage, though overexertion needs monitoring.
How far can they run?
A fully grown, well-conditioned dog of this type can build up to several miles at a steady pace, though every dog is an individual and some plateau sooner. Let the dog set the limit, and stop at the first sign of lagging or laboured breathing.
