Are Yorkipoos good guard dogs?

Yorkipoos are small in size, so they deter through noise rather than physical threat. A 2 to 6kg dog will not stop a determined intruder, but a loud, persistent alarm still sends most chancers to an easier target.

Yorkipoos are easy to train, which helps if you want reliable alert behaviour and a solid recall. A protective dog you cannot call off is a danger to visitors, delivery drivers, and you. Socialisation from puppyhood is what separates a stable, discerning dog from a reactive one, and formal protection training should only ever be done through a qualified professional.

Should you get this breed specifically to guard?
Choose a dog for the life you can give it, not for a job it may spend years never doing. For everyday home security, a naturally alert family dog plus good locks and lighting does more than most people expect. A miserable, under-stimulated dog guards nothing well.
